GreenTechNA was founded in August 2024 and officially launched as a Sole Proprietorship in early September 2024. Following high demand for our expertise and broad range of services, GreenTechNA was incorporated in British Columbia at the end of February 2025. The company is now strongly positioned to take on larger, long-term partnerships across Canada, the USA, Europe, and Asia.
GreenTechNA leverages over 17 years of hands-on experience and best practices from North America and Denmark/Europe in renewable energy production, low-carbon district energy, and energy-efficient sector coupling. Our vision is simple yet impactful: to get things done. We create meaningful value for our clients, partners, and the broader market, accelerating the green transition through a diverse portfolio of services.
Building strong, trustworthy relationships with our clients sits at the heart of what we do. We focus on adapting project development and implementation learnings from Europe and other regions into the North American context, tailoring technology selection, constructability, business practices, local expertise, standards, and best practices.

Niels Vilstrup is a Danish renewable energy expert with over 17 years of international experience in district energy, renewable energy, low-carbon solutions, and project development. As Founder and President of GreenTechNA, he focuses on advancing renewable energy production, low-carbon district energy systems, and sector coupling across North America and Europe. Niels holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in Energy Construction and Thermodynamics.
Previously, Niels served as Deputy Director at Lonsdale Energy Corporation in North Vancouver, where he led significant renewable energy projects, developed carbon-neutral strategies, and provided strategic advice to city leadership. Prior to that, he was Head of the Danish District Energy Advisory (DDEA) in North America at the Royal Danish Embassy in Washington D.C., where, over four years, he facilitated more than $2 million in district energy export initiatives and built strong partnerships with developers, universities, municipalities, and public institutions.
Earlier in his career, Niels worked in the Danish consultancy sector for several years, including a posting in Doha, Qatar, as design manager for a large district cooling system serving a major metro line. Before that, he gained extensive experience as a project manager and design engineer on waste-heat recovery power plant projects, utilizing waste heat from cement plants and large-scale power plants in rural and remote areas to generate electricity around the world.
Niels' expertise spans Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia, where he has led the implementation of innovative energy systems, fostered stakeholder collaborations, and championed clean energy transitions.
Beyond work
Pianist and singer since childhood, performing with bands and choirs since the age of 18, most recently in Washington D.C. A career highlight: performing in 1991 with "Up With People" at the Super Bowl XXV pregame in Tampa, alongside The Temptations.
Hiking, running, mountain biking, camping, kayaking, and skiing. A passion for travel, time with family and friends, and engagement in his local community.
